ZUCC was established with the primary goal of providing highly qualified, comprehensive, practical and creative talents to the local community. ZUCC is an innovative leader in the approach of teaching students according to their aptitudes, inspiring students’ learning interests, and cultivating students’ abilities to adapt to the competitiveness in the future job market.
With the approval of China’s Ministry of Education and Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, Zhejiang University City College (ZUCC) was jointly founded in July 1999 by Hangzhou Municipal Government and Zhejiang University, and co-sponsored by Zhejiang Telecommunication Industrial Group. Being an independent college of Zhejiang University, it offers a breadth of full-time undergraduate programs. ZUCC is the first independent college ever established by a top-ranking university in China and is regarded as the “bellwether” of independent college in the country by China’s Ministry of Education. The current president is Professor Wu jian, doctoral advisor of Zhejiang University.
Located in Hangzhou city proper, ZUCC has a total area of 68 hectares (169 acres) and buildings with a total floor space of more than 420,000 square meters (4.5 million square feet). Students enjoy a serene campus with advanced infrastructure and teaching facilities.
ZUCC now has 35 undergraduate degree programs in 9 subordinate schools: School of Computer and Computing Science, School of Information and Electrical Engineering, School of Medicine and Life Science, School of Engineering, School of Foreign Languages, School of Business, School of Media Studies and Humanities, School of Law and School of Artistic Design and Creation. ZUCC enrolls students from all over China. There are now more than 13,000 undergraduates on campus. Full-time candidates for mater’s degrees and international students have also been recruited since 2003.
