8-magnitude earthquake occurred in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province at 14:28 on May 12, 2008. Dongfang Steam Turbine Works that is located in the Town of Deyang Mianzhu Hanawang suffered very severely, some factories, schools, living quarters all collapsed. Power of living quarters and factories were all cut off, communications security was disrupted. The death toll has reached to 599, 79 persons seriously injured, more than ten thousand people become homeless due to the collapse of buildings, calculating at 12:00 on May 22, 2008. There is a serious shortage of clothing, food, drinking water, and the property loss amounted to billions.
 
Our group started emergency plans immediately after the earthquake, and organized all staff to devote themselves into self-seismic saving. In the afternoon of May 13, 2008, Premier of the State Council, Wen Jiabao, went to Dongfang Steam Turbine Works, meeting staff of Dongfang Electric Group who were carrying out self-help earthquake relief and reconstruction work, saying that the CPC Central Committee and the State Council will greatly support self-help activities and post-disaster reconstruction. In the afternoon of May 23, 2008, Premier Wen Jiabao came to Dongfang Steam Turbine Works again and guided the work of post-disaster reconstruction. Vice Premier of the State Council, Li Keqiang, Vice Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission, Guo Boxiong, also visited Dongfang Steam Turbine Works to guide the work of post-disaster reconstruction.
 
Disasters have no mercy, but humans do. When disasters occurred at one spot,helpcame from all quarters. On behalf of our group, I’d like to extend our sincere appreciations for your help to all the staff and their families. 
 
We would do our best with practical actions to thank you for your concern and help to rescue the injured, and strive to do a good job in disaster self-help, epidemic prevention, resettlement of the affected workers, post-disaster reconstruction work.
